Bandera Bulldogs JV Baseball

The JV baseball team hosted the Pearsall Mavericks on Friday at Bandera High School, claiming victory with a final score of 11 to 1.
The Bulldogs were looking to bounce back from two tough losses in the previous weeks. The Mavericks jumped on the board in the 1st inning scoring a run on an error but the Bulldogs would bounce back scoring in the bottom half of the inning. The Bulldogs would hold Pearsall the rest of the way.
The Bulldogs had some good at-bats by putting the ball in play, drawing walks or taking one for the team. West Cloudt and Brady Trussell scored three times each, and Payson Mangold had three RBIs on two hits. Mangold also worked the mound, having a dominating performance throwing four innings with six strikeouts.
The Bulldogs battled Davenport last night, taking a 9-0 loss. Mangold was starting pitcher, throwing to catcher Kelton Raab. Braidyn Lynch controlled the mound as relief pitcher, covered by designated hitter Braidyn Franklin in the defensive line-up. The team improved their fielding, with second baseman Trussell and third baseman Kenai Jerome picking off runners, slowing down their opponent's first-inning six-run gain. James Bower, Hayden Winters, Michael Garcia and Beto Rodrigues worked hard in the outfield, with Rodrigues catching an inning-ending fly ball.
The JV baseball team’s next home game will be March 20, when they host Canyon Lake.

Varsity Baseball Game Recap

The Bandera baseball team continued action last week starting off with a trip to Ingram. The Bulldogs struck early on a lead off home run by sophomore Caleb Hohon, his first of the season. The Bulldogs pushed two more across in the third and blew the game open with seven runs in the 4th and seven more in the 5th, winning by a score of 17-4. Senior Riley Haley pitching innings, striking out five and only allowing one hit to get the win. Josh Dupre and Benton Cloudt drove in two, Barrett Waid and three RBI and Scott Perry had a big night as well, tallying four RBI and hitting his first home run of the season.
Thursday, Bandera traveled to Somerset for their second tournament of the season. The first game saw the Bulldogs take on 6A San Antonio Roosevelt. Senior pitcher Waid threw the compete game two-hitter, striking out 10 and allowing one unearned run. Haley, Coleton Trenkelbach, Zach Quesnot and Waid all collected two hits to help pace the Bulldogs to a 12-1 win.
The second game of the day saw the Bulldogs take on 6A San Antonio Reagan’s JV. In typical fashion, Bandera struck early, taking a 2-0 lead after one inning of play. The lead was stretched to 3-0 and Hohon seemed in control on the mound, taking care of a tough lineup. San Antonio Reagan is on of the top programs in the nation, let alone the state. Hohon threw five innings, striking out five and allowing three earned runs. The Bulldogs couldn’t hang on to the early lead, however. The Rattlers were able to push three runs across in the final ending, including a bang-bang play at the the plate to compete the comeback win.
On Friday, the Bulldogs faced off against another tough opponent in the Madisonville Mustangs. Again, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Although Bandera was able to battle until the end, Madisonville was able to take control of the game in the middle innings and secure a 7-2 victory over the dogs.
Saturday saw Bandera take on Somerset in the finale of the tournament. Yet again the Bulldogs jumped out early, scoring three in the first. Randon Wheeler and Scott Perry both had two hits for the Dogs. In the end, there were too many mistakes in the field and at the plate, letting Somerset back in the game, winning 8-4.
Bandera starts district play today as they travel to Boerne. Game time for district ballgames this year is 6 p.m. District action will take a break this weekend as teams finish up tournament season. Bandera will be in Jourdanton this weekend before continuing district play next week during Spring Break. The Bulldogs sit a 6-4 overall for the season after two weeks of play.
We look forward to seeing everybody at the ballpark.
