Spring Break family fun at Frontier Times Museum

Spring Break family fun can be found in Bandera. The Frontier Times Museum is offering lots of family activities over Spring Break, March 13 - 17, in addition to the museum’s regular activities like the Frontier Scavenger Hunt and the Discovery Corral children’s play area.
The Frontier Times Museum is one of the oldest history museums in Texas, with an “eclectic and eccentric” collection of art and treasures gathered over 90 years. On display are fossils, old-time photos, pioneer relics, and curiosities such as a shrunken head and a two-faced goat. The museum also honors the American cowboy with displays of local rodeo champions and an extensive collection of barbed wire and western hats.
Each day of Spring Break has a different theme.
Monday, March 13, is Pioneer Day. Be transported back to the Little House on the Prairie with pioneer toys and games, making corn husk dolls, planting a mini egg carton garden, and making photographs with only the sun.
Tuesday is Frontier Art Day with rock painting, crafts, and paint your own “buffalo hide.”
Wednesday is Sheep Shenanigans with Jennifer Rimmrichter of Sheepwalk Ranch. Jennifer will give spinning wheel demonstrations and how to make wool bowls. A petting zoo from Mackadoo Farms will be here for the day.
Thursday is Rodeo Day with world champion trick roper Kevin Fitzpatrick not only doing tricks, but he’ll teach you how to do rope tricks yourself. You’ll also get a chance to become a Rodeo Clown with an authentic rodeo barrel and try-on clown costumes. Or be a rodeo champion competing in the stick horse races.
Cowboy Day on Friday, March 17, will feature a chuck wagon with Kelly Scott. Enjoy his chuckwagon peach cobbler while listening to Cowboy singer and storyteller, Danny White. Redneck the Longhorn will also be a part of the fun. Free wagon rides will be offered every day of the week. The fun goes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The museum is partnering with the Bandera Natural History Museum in offering museum bucks that can be used for discounted tickets at each museum. Visit one museum and receive one museum dollar per person that can be used at the other museum.
Museum admission is $8 per adult, $5 for seniors (65 or over), $4 per child (6 to 17) with the little buckaroos, 5 or younger, free. All Spring Break activities are free with museum admission.
Want to visit more than one day? Become a museum Family Member for $50 and get two adults and three children in for free all week and for an entire year.
