Grand-families Night planned at the Bandera Foster Closet

By Jessica Nohealapa’ahi
The Bandera Prophet

In Bandera County, 33 percent of students in Bandera ISD are being raised by their grandparents. The Foster Closet, an organization developed to assist foster families by providing much-needed essentials, is extending an arm to multi-generational families in which grandparents are guardians of their grandchildren.
On Friday, June 23, the Bandera Foster Closet will host a shopping night from 5:30-6:30 p.m., during which the kids may “shop” for clothes, shoes, toys, furniture and more, at no cost. Light refreshments will be provided.
Founded to provide comfort and dignity to frightened, displaced children, many of whom are abruptly removed from their surroundings, the Foster Closet helps stabilize them and their foster families. All items donated, kids and foster parents can “shop” for some of the things they need at no cost to them.
Volunteers and donations are welcomed, including very gently used items such as backpacks and travel bags, clothing in sizes from preemie up to 18 years old, books, highchairs, blankets, hygiene kits, car seats, baby food and formula, diapers, bottles, gift cards, pillows, and other items. To schedule a donation, drop off, volunteer, or if you have any questions, please email [email protected].
To RSVP, please call 210-386-1436. The Bandera Foster Closet is at 1137 Hwy. 173, Bandera.
