Puppies dumped, left for dead, at cemetery

Five puppies were abandoned earlier this week in the Pipe Creek Cemetery, left with no food or water and covered in fleas. Rescued and now being taken care of at the Bandera County Animal Control Facility, the puppies join 17 more in custody.
“We have a puppy epidemic in this county and they are literally dying on the streets,” Animal Control Liaison Sandra Schott said. “People call me every day to owner-surrender their unwanted litters, which we just can’t take.”
Schott said in July, a puppy tested positive for the fatal disease Parvo. It died, and infected 10 more puppies, seven of which also died.
“A shelter is no place for a puppy to spend any amount of time in. I so wish people would spay/neuter their pets and keep them contained - or alternatively not take in animals if they can not afford them,” Schott said.
In July, Sheriff Dan Butts said deputies responded to 95 animal-related calls, and 30 dogs were picked up. Schott said the puppies, all apparent mixed-breeds, will soon be available for adoption.
Anyone interested in adopting or fostering the puppies may contact her by email at [email protected].
