Meteors at Lost Maples
By Jessica Nohealapa’ahi
The Bandera Prophet
A Star Party was hosted at the Lost Maples State Natural Area on Saturday, in coordination with the Perseids meteor shower. Family activities were built around educating guests on the night sky and nocturnal critters.
Organized by Park Manager Amanda Zumwalt, the San Antonio Astronomical Society and Hill Country Alliance provided telescopes for gazing upward to get a closer view of the shooting stars.
The event was part of the 100-Year Celebration of Texas state parks, during which special activities are held and admission is free. In Bandera County, the Hill Country State Natural Area will commemorate 100 years on Oct. 7, for Ranching Heritage Day.
