Medina Athletics continue to roll in the new year. Cross Country began their competitive season on Saturday, Aug, 19, in Floresville. Junior Ahnika Grassie ran a 15:16 to earn a 77th place out of 148 total runners, most from larger school districts. In the high school boys division, Rylan Mills ran for a 61st place finish with Holland Cook and Brandon Harms coming in close behind.
“Definitely have some work to do but it’s good to get the first one out of the way,” Head Coach Chris Pace said. “Good news is that now we have a base to work with. It’s only up from here.”
Volleyball
Medina Lady Cat volleyball had a good week earning wins over Pearsall on Tuesday and then Kipp Somos and Center Point at the Charlotte Trojanette volleyball tournament this past weekend. The wins showcased the team’s progress under new head coach Tony Vela. Senior Autumn Turner is encouraged by the team’s success so far.
“This year is going to be a year for progression. The team has already learned many things and how to work together as one,” Turner said.
Junior Hallie Kunz was named to the Charlotte Tournament All-Tournament team.
Junior Varsity Lady Cat volleyball also had a victorious week earning their first win of the season on Tuesday versus Pearsall.
Football
Bobcat football made a statement at home this past Thursday, displaying many positives in their scrimmage versus Richland Springs. The Bobcats will travel to Rochelle on Friday, Aug. 25, for their first official game of the 2023 season.
