Kerrville Genealogical Society’s upcoming program featuring Gerald Witt, of Bandera.
Witt will be speaking on “Finding Your Polish, German & Other Eastern European Ancestors,” on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 2 p.m.
The program is free and open to the public and will be held in the Guadalupe Basin Natural Resource Center Auditorium, at 125 N. Lehmann Dr. in Kerrville.
According to the U.S. Census, people of Polish descent represent the seventh largest ethnic group in Texas. Witt will share tips and insights to help you start and further research into your Polish, German and other Eastern European ancestry. As a descendant of Polish settlers in Bandera, he will explain what led the group from Upper Silesia, Prussia, to immigrate to Texas and how they integrated int the culture they discovered here.
Witt will describe methods for tracing people through church records, newspapers, and written histories such as T. Linsay Baker’ book, The First Polish Americans’ Silesian Settlements in Texas, as well as his once-in-a-lifetime experience traveling to his ancestral villages in Poland.
