Keep in Beat with the Bandera Library
By Mauri Guillén Fagan
Bandera Library Director
Happy Fall Y’all! Autumn has officially arrived, if only in spirit. Although it doesn’t quite feel like fall yet, come grab a fall-y book to help escape the heat. We have several staff recommendations if you are unsure what book(s) to pick.
Hispanic Heritage Month is being celebrated until Oct. 15. Check out some books of all genres and for all ages written by talented Hispanic authors. Several can easily be found across from the checkout desk in our Recommended Reading Section.
Stop by on Saturday, Oct. 7, for this month’s Friends of the Library book sale. There are hundreds of gently loved books available for ‘sale’ by donation. From children’s books, to non-fiction books, to new and popular books, there will be something for everyone.
October is spooky month here at Bandera Kronkosky Public Library, so in the spirit of all things that go bump in the night, join us for our Fear Street Challenge. All month long, we will be featuring our extensive collection of books by R.L. Stine. For each book you checkout, read and return, you get an entry for a prize at the end of the month. Tracking sheets are available at the circulation counter and the program begins Oct. 1.
On Monday, Oct. 9, the library will be closed on in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day. We will reopen again on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 9 a.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 10, will be our monthly Bandera County Garden Club meeting from 10 - 11 a.m., in the Texana Room. The group discusses topics relevant to gardening here in the local area. Come by to chat with fellow garden-lovers and get more information on raising various veggies and flowers. It’s a wonderful opportunity to find out how others are dealing with current issues or hear inspiring success stories.
We have another great educational event coming later this month. Save the date for Thursday, Oct. 12, at 2:30 p.m., and again at 6:30 p.m., for a Preplanning Event hosted by Grimes Funeral Home. Meet with Dawn from Grimes to talk about the benefits of making a preplan for your funeral. Contact Dawn at 830-796-3922 to register for the event.
The following week, we have our very first Lunch and Learn hosted by Texas A&M Agrilife Extension. Join us on Monday, Oct. 16, at 12:15 p.m., to learn about healthy food choices, planning out meals, and more. This takes place for a total of four consecutive Mondays and is meant to be continued learning. If you can, please join us for all four events, but it is also okay to join as you can.
Bandera Kronkosky Public Library is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Stay up to date with library events by following us on social media (@BanderaLibrary), or sign up for our monthly newsletter through our website at www.banderalibrary.org.
Happy tales, y’all.
