Bandera’s Cowgirl Roundup honors friendship, spirit and love

By Leanne Beauxbeannes
Special to the Prophet

Bandera’s Cowgirl Roundup was and continues to be created and produced by Leanne Beauxbeannes, Jeanne Beauxbeannes and Carey Reed.
New Years Day 2024 was the 24th anniversary of the first roundup of Bandera’s Cowgirls at Mansfield Park. It was the turn of the century celebration and that panoramic photo is framed and hanging in the Frontier Times Museum.
It seemed to us that the Cowboy Capital was just loaded with cowgirls on horseback, and we wanted to prove that and honor them. The second gathering of Cowgirl Roundup was held in honor of Bandera’s Sesquicentennial in 2003. Many were in attendance this year. The third to 13th Cowgirl Roundups also became a showdeo, and were held in the Hill Country State Natural Area arena. Then, we had one year at Bandera City Park, and every year after at Mansfield Park.
Many of the cowgirls in these photos have passed on to those greener pastures in the sky. Many of their beloved horses have followed or preceded them to the end of the trail.
These photos are a precious record of cowgirl friendship, the cowgirl spirit, and our love of these fabulous horses.
