Cowboy Capital Trail Riders bundle up for Warm Up Ride

Below freezing temps at 8 a.m. could not keep this hardy bunch home. The Cowboy Capital Trail Riders, led by Trail Boss Jeanne Beauxbeannes, saddled up on the morning of Bandera’s first arctic freeze of the year for their annual Warm Up Ride. Along the way, they stopped at St. Stanislaus’ Cemetery to pay homage to trail ride founders Frank and Mary Anderwald. At the end of the trail, riders fueled up with a chili and cornbread meal at TJs in Bandera for lunch.
Riders are invited to cowboy up and ride, starting Saturday night, Feb. 3, at Tarpley VFD, on the week-long ride from Bandera to the San Antonio Rodeo.
On Sunday, Feb. 4, Tarpley Round Robin down country roads and overnight camping. On Monday, Feb. 5, riders will head from Tarpley to the Hill Country State Natural Area, and camp there. On Tuesday, Feb. 6, ride the HCSNA trails. On Wednesday, Feb. 7, riders will leave HCSNA, ride down FM 1077 to Bandera City Park. Ride to be announced on Thursday, Feb. 8. On Friday, Feb. 9, ride in the Helotes Elementary School parade, then head to the Bexar County Junior Livestock Show for camping and “End of Trail” dance and gun raffle. Saturday, Feb. 10, CCTRA members will ride in the Grand Entry, and enjoy free tickets to the rodeo grounds.
The fees, which include meals, are $80 for adults for the week, or $30 per day. Students are $50 for the week, or $10 per day.
