The Bandera boys track and field team had a strong showing with limited numbers over Spring Break, finishing ninth out of 29 teams at the Angelo State Relays.
Junior Sam Snavely continued to shine in the 400m run, posting a personal best 51.40 to finish fourth out of 52 competitors. Snavely currently ranks No. 2 in the district for the open 400m run and also anchored the 4x400m relay that finished fourth overall at Angelo State.
Senior Esteban Leyva also posted a personal record of 16.97 in the 110 hurdles, which has him sitting fourth in the district at this point in the season. Leyva finished sixth in the 300m hurdles at Angelo State.
Seniors Mariano Casas and Cale Barnett continued the big day for the Bulldogs, as Casas tied his PR in the 800m run with a 2:04 to take 2nd place. Barnett posted a PR of 11’6 in Pole Vault, finishing seventh out of 24 competitors.
Other personal best finishes for the Bulldogs included Ruben Ruiz-Palacios, who placed fourth in the 800m run with a time of 2:07. Chris Hoffman ran a personal best 11.88 in the 100m run, and Michael Verhey posted a personal best of 25.09 in the 200m run.
The Bulldogs’ 4x400m relay, composed of William Vidmer, Casas, Kyle Moore and Snavely, also ran a season best time of 3:36 to place 4th at Angelo State.
“We had a small group at the Angelo State relays, but posted some great performances and a lot of PRs,” Bandera boys Head Track Coach Sam Farrell said. “We’re continuing to sharpen up for district. We only had one relay entered so we missed out on some points, but it gave the guys a good opportunity to run in some open events.”
The Bulldogs will be traveling to two different meets this week, with some of the varsity team competing at the Texas State University Meet on Thursday while others compete at the Devine meet on Wednesday.
