Lady Bulldogs finish fourth at Angelo State as Lawlis breaks school record

By Brady Keane

The Bandera girls track team had a record-setting performance at the Angelo State Relays Spring Break Track and Field Meet on Thursday, March 14, continuing to build momentum in anticipation of the District 27-4A meet.
Junior Kinlee Lawlis set a new school record and placed first in the 200m dash with a time of 25.01. The Lady Bulldogs’ 4x200m relay (Gabby Barrera, Jayla Blake, Sydney Moore and Lawlis) also fell just short of a school record while also finishing first with a time of 1:44.69.
The previous school record in the 200m was set by Katie Miller in 2008, and the girls’ 4x200m relay team is now ranked in the State at the Class 4A level.
In the 4x100m relay, Barerra, Taytum Moeller, Eva Le and Preslee Greenly placed 5th. Greenly (13.42) and Le (13.93) set personal records in the 100m dash, Milesia Casas (63.40) set a personal record in the 400m run.
Jayla Blake finished third in the 200m dash with a personal record of 26.36 and Gabby Barrera placed sixth with a personal record of 26.76.
In the 4x400m relay, Blake, Moeller, Jazlyn Dickerson and Lawlis finished third with a season-best time of 4:08.12. Dickerson also placed sixth in the long jump with a season best jump of 15-0.25.
Despite traveling with a total of just nine girls over the break, the Lady Bulldogs finished fourth out of 34 teams at an extremely competitive meet. The girls track team will be back in action in Devine on Wednesday while a handful of Lady Bulldogs will travel to compete at the Texas State Meet on Thursday.
“After a few days off, the girls were back at it and they did not disappoint,” Bandera girls Head Track Coach Brooke Ashcraft said. “There were many personal bests and season bests in the day against a lot of great competition. It was a very exciting evening.”
