Bandera Bulldogs Leyva, Snavely qualify for area track meet

Senior Esteban Leyva and junior Sam Snavely led the way at the District 27-4A track meet for the Bandera boys track and field team as both runners qualified for the area competition with top four finishes.
Leyva was the first area qualifier in the 110 hurdles, finishing fourth with a personal best time of 16.36. Leyva was fourth in the prelims on Wednesday to qualify for finals, and again placed fourth on Thursday behind McCoy Bruce (Boerne), Clayton Williams (Davenport) and Knox Gallini (Navarro).
Snavely then joined Leyva as an area qualifier in the 400m run. Snavely placed fifth in the prelims on Wednesday with a time of 52.10 and then moved up to fourth in the finals on Thursday with a time of 51.11, ranking in the top 5 all time in the event at Bandera High School.
Snavely and Leyva will compete at the area meet on Wednesday at New Braunfels Canyon High School.
“We finished the year out with some strong performances,” Bandera Boys Head Track Coach Sam Farrell said. “We had two individuals get out, and many that were very close. A lot of guys hit personal best which is exactly what we want at the district meet, running your best when it matters most. The JV guys finished strong, which shows a bright future for this program. We had only three seniors on varsity, and I’m excited to see how the young guys improve next year. Our focus now will shift to Sam and Esteban out of Area and on to Regionals in Kingsville.”
