The Frontier Times Museum welcomed friends and supporters of the museum to the Bridlegate Community Center on Saturday, May 4, for their annual Spring Gala.
Attendees enjoyed delicious food and cocktails while supporting the museum with a silent and live auction. Furious bidding was happening throughout the night for such treasures as a handmade angora wool rug from the Naumann Angoras, metal art from Esther Benedict, a lifetime subscription to the Bandera Bulletin donated by editor Daniel Tucker, a spa gift certificate from Radiant Journey Wellness Studio, Cowgirl Boots from the Leather Bank of Bandera, a handmade quilt gifted by museum trustee Michelle Barnet, an original pencil sketch of historic 11th Street, Julian Gold necklace gifted by Dianna Harris, artwork by Dennis Eaglehorse gifted by museum trustee Tessa Kolodny, and a large garden wagon filled with goodies by Board President Ann Hevenor and Hevenor Lumber and Hardware. Trustee Bill Pannebaker donated unique Bandera history items of a sketch of the Bandera Courthouse, framed vintage postcards and a Bandera ashtray from the 1940s, and trustee Harry Harris donated a Holt Cat cooler that could rival any Yeti cooler. Dale Naumann was the lucky winner of the night’s Rifle Raffle, winning a 30-30 rifle donated by Kevin Meier.
The live auction featured plenty of spirits, starting with a George Strait autographed bottle of his tequila donated by Johnny Boyle of Bandera Wine & Spirits followed by an oversize basket of Texas history books and rare Texas whiskey to enjoy while reading, gifted by Susan Junker. Not to be outdone, museum trustee David Hicks brought a wheelbarrow filled with everything one would need to host a beach or pool party. Other treasures included a watercolor print by recent Texas Heroes Hall of Honor recipient, Susie Short, a signed G. Harvey cowboy print gifted by Susie’s brother and sister-in-law, Jake and Kari Short, and an exclusive white tail hunt at the Cinco Lomas Ranch donated by museum trustee George Sharman. Gala Chairperson Tessa Kolodny, made by hand a large mesquite coffee table that proved to be one of the night’s top bids. The highest bid of the evening was for a special Mexican Dinner and Margaritas at the historic Hix Ranch for a lucky group of 12, donated by David Hicks.
“We had such a great evening and we’re so appreciative of everyone’s generous support for the museum. Funds raised from our Gala help support the museum’s operations and our educational programs, which includes all the free programs we provide for area schools. We receive no government support, so our Gala plays a huge part of our annual revenue. We were also fortunate to have a great group of sponsors – Tito’s Vodka was our lead sponsor, the Historic Hix Ranch, the Meier Ranch, Cinco Lomas Ranch, Texas Partners Bank, Western Trail Antique Mall, Bill Pannebaker, the Hill Country Veterinary Hospital and the Moseley Ranch,” the museum’s Executive Director Rebecca Norton said.
