Lakehills parade never fails

In spite of the blistering heat and the humidity, the American Legion Post 410 parade went off without a hitch. The public lined PR 37 in Lakehills, on both sides, and were not disappointed, watching the floats and the Medina Lake Volunteer Fire Department trucks roll by.
The Grand Marshal was Dan Alanis, an American Legion Post 410 member for 50 years. Alanis has been active in our community for as long, and he has served honorably in all capacities, both military and civilian.
The competition was intense as the judges (who shall remain anonymous) made their decisions. Most Creative float went to Bandera County Republican Women; First Place was awarded to Manorwerks and Pathfinder Services; Second Place was won by Lakehills Community Center; and Third Place went to Texas Salt Company.
All participants threw out beads and candies, which thrilled the kiddos. One of those kiddos was 7-year-old Scarlett Sanders, who attended the parade with her grandmother, Kristi Mays, a local resident.
The parade was followed immediately by the delicious barbeque, which included chicken and sausage, with all the trimmings; and the desserts were plentiful.
Out in the gazebo, local celebrity Bandera’s own “Whiskey” Wade Lowrie, drew quite a crowd with his lively music and there was plenty of room for dancing.
For more information, stop by the Legion at 147 Legion Dr. in Lakehills or by calling 830-612-1034. They are open to the public Fridays through Wednesdays, from 3 to 8-plus p.m. They can also be followed on Facebook.
