Bandera County American Legions celebrate patriotism for Independence Day

The American Legion Honor Guard, in cooperation with the Boys & Girls Club of Bandera County, presented a multi-media patriotism theatre-style show that taught the basics of how the U.S. National Anthem was born, proper respect for the flag, how to properly dispose of a U.S. Flag, and then taught the Boys & Girls Club youth members, as well as the general public in how to properly fold the U.S. Flag.
The American Legion Honor Guard is a cooperative group of members from both Post #157 in Bandera and Post #410 in Lakehills.
“The Boys & Girls Club has had the pleasure of having the American Legion Honor Guard from both Post 157 in Bandera and Post 410 in Lakehills come to our elementary sites to teach our young members about flag etiquette with the American Flag & Patriotism Course. This is the third year they have shared this with our kids. This is such an amazing interactive course for our youth members to learn,” Bandera County and Uvalde BGC CEO Amy Ouellette said.
BGC Hill Country Elementary Campus Unit Director Katie echoed Ouellette.
“All of our (youth) members had a blast learning about how to properly take care of the flag and know that it is not just a piece of cloth. The members were all actively engaged the whole time and can't wait for them to come back,” Katie said.
“While most people know us for providing dignified funeral memorial services for our veterans, we often get out in the community of Bandera County for various functions. This is our third year of having this presentation for the Boys & Girls Club and to be honest, we enjoy it as much as the kids do,” Strive 24 Gym owner and American Legion Honor Guard Vinny Mifsud said.
