Due to weather, the Back to School Bash has been rescheduled from this Saturday to Saturday, Aug. 3. The event will still be held from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Hundreds of backpacks are packed with supplies and ready to be given away.
Hosted by the Hill Country Samaritans and the Bandera Independent School District, the free event will be held at the Lakehills Community Center, 11225 PR 37.
Fully-stocked backbacks, health services, school physicals, hair cuts, crafts, games, food, music, prize drawings, and a petting zoo will be available at no charge to families.
All students from pre-k through 12th grade are welcome, whether attending public, private or home school. New this year, all public and private students must be registered for school in Bandera County, and must be present to get a free backpack with supplies.
Vendors will be strategically placed on the grounds, all of whom provide many local services to the community. Bandera ISD representatives will be on site, and will provide information on lunches and transportation. Immunizations will be available - those with insurance are asked to bring their insurance cards.
Parking fills up fast; shuttles will be available.
The first day of school for Bandera ISD will be Tuesday, Aug. 6. The first day of school for Pipe Creek Christian School will be Monday, Aug. 12. The first day of school for Medina ISD will be Wednesday, Aug. 14. The statewide tax-free weekend for school supplies and clothes will be Friday, Aug. 9 to Sunday, Aug. 11.
