Plan your fall garden
Saturday presentation at the Lakehills Area Library

By Denise Gober
Lakehills Area Library Garden Club

Summer heat is here, and now is the time to plan your fall garden. Local gardening and preserving expert Gwen Lingenfelter will walk us through how to plan for a bountiful fall harvest.
“Planning Your Fall Garden” is the topic of the July 27 presentation at the Lakehills Area Library Garden Club. Lingenfelter, owner of Gwen’s Garden Goodies, will begin the presentation at 11 a.m.
Starting from scratch on caliche and limestone on her ranch near Bandera, Gwen and her family learned about good soil, controlling pests, composting and mulching, sowing seeds, harvesting, and so much more. Today, she has 17 raised beds for fruits and veggies, plus various planting areas for herbs. She preserves and sells the resulting bounty in the area, notably at the Pipe Creek Market Days.
This month, Gwen will share her wealth of knowledge. The program will continue until 12:30 p.m., at the Lakehills Area Library, 7200 FM 1283. This is free and open to the public.
