Lakehills library features new art

Bobbie Jo Basinger’s lovely oil paintings and her creative tole paintings are being featured during the month of August in the Lakehills Area Library, located at 7200 FM 1283.
“I always liked to ‘color’ as a child and spent many hours with my crayons and coloring books,” Basinger said.
She started painting as therapy in 1975, after the death of her young daughter. She began by working in oils. With a growing family, she couldn’t paint as often as she wanted; and her teacher also introduced her to tole painting.
In 1995, she took lessons learning how to use acrylics and, since retiring, she has seriously studied oil painting under some influential teachers.
Basinger was Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2, of Bandera County, retiring in 2020, after 25 years of service. She currently serves on the board of the Lakehills library.
While her oil paintings are hung, her tole painted items are displayed in the glass case by the front door of the library.
Tole painting is the folk art of decorative painting on tin and wooden utensils, objects and furniture, using acrylic paints. Typical metal objects include utensils, coffee pots, and similar household items. Wooden objects include tables, chairs, and chests, including hope chests, toy boxes and jewelry boxes.
Library hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The public is invited to view the new art display.
Check out all the library’s events and services at their website: lakehillslibrary.org or follow them on Facebook. The phone is 830-510-2777.
