Seniors for Seniors Dog Foster Program seeking homes for older dogs
A Doggie 4 You in Pipe Creek is seeking senior citizens who yearn for a little extra companionship. As a volunteer in the Senior for Seniors Dog Foster Program you will be matched with a senior dog, 7 years or older, by our Adoption Coordinator.
The rescue provides a crate, dog bed, dog food and bowl, collar and leash, and any medications the dog may need. The main function of a foster home is to provide a safe, loving home environment. This entails caring for your foster as you would care for your own dog: offering food, affection, socialization and exercise to keep the dog happy and healthy. Most senior dogs are couch potatoes and require little exercise.
Please report back to the shelter with information about the dog’s personality and behavior. You will be hugely rewarded in playtime, snuggles, doggie kisses, and the great feeling of knowing you are helping to save a life.
NOTE: The foster has the first option to adopt their foster dog if an adoption request comes through by another interested party.
Reasons foster homes are needed:
1. The shelter is overcrowded and placing dogs in foster care frees up space to save more dogs.
2. The rescue wants to learn more about a dog’s personality and behavior in a home setting.
3. Some senior dog needs a safe place with loving care to come out of its shell after being surrendered when its former owner dies.
