Bandera boys XC has strong showing to open season

The Bandera boys cross country team kicked off its season with the Alkek Cross Country Relay Saturday morning, and several runners opened the year with a strong start out of the gate.
Sixteen Bulldogs competed in the relay style event, where runners were paired in groups of two before running a combined four miles (one mile at a time, each). Senior Ruben Ruiz Palacios and junior Zach Goodin placed 2nd overall as a team while seniors Michael Verhey and Hayden Swalve finished 4th overall.
“Our guys competed well for the first meet of the season,” first-year Head Coach Aidan Keane said. “We saw guys push themselves and get PRs on their first mile. We had two guys in the top 3 for most of the race and even had first place until about the last 800. They stayed focused and produced results that should motivate them to bring home more medals this season.”
Senior Ashton Robinson also ran an impressive race for the Bulldogs, showing the most improvement in his mile time while posting a 5:11 in his first mile of the day. Michael Ramirez, a newcomer to the squad, posted a 5:48 mile, and Goodin ran the fastest leg of the day with a 4:52 mile to open things up.
