The Bandera girls cross country team opened the year with the Alkek Cross Country Relay Saturday morning, posting times that impressed Head Coach Brooke Ashcraft early in the season.
The Bulldogs claimed four of the five team places in the relay meet, with Kierstin Brown and Merry Robinson placing second, Riley LaLanne and Aubrie Moore placing third, Xoi Cook and Lori King placing 4th and Jazlynn Dickerson Riley Noon placing 5th.
Overall, 24 athletes competed in the meet for Bandera.
“I was pleasantly surprised by how fast the girls ran over the weekend,” Ashcraft said. “They have been working really hard in practice, so I knew they would run fast, but they surpassed my expectations.”
Robinson had the fastest single mile time, posting a 5:37 in her first split. Brown had a 5:47 in her first split, Riley LaLanne ran a 5:52 in her first mile and Lori King posted a 5:53 in her first mile. The fastest second mile of the day came from Robinson, who ran a 6:00 mile to finish things up.
Other competitors for the Bulldogs included Ayslyn Goodin, Mila Chica Fasting, Lauren Meier, Isabella Chapa, Julia Freeman, Samantha Carter, Emma Rynarzweski, Celeste Martinez, Bailey Barth, Rosa Espino, Kylie Minton, Katja Ramirez, Kienna Cielinski, Mariska Collazo, Yamne De La Rosa and Jasmin Rodriguez.
Bandera will be back in action this Saturday at the New Braunfels meet.
“I’m excited to see how the girls will do this weekend as we look to build on several PR’s from last week’s meet,” Ashcraft said.
