The Bandera volleyball team continued to battle through early season injuries last week, as the Bulldogs hosted Marion before traveling to the Floresville Tournament.
After playing seven matches in five days and going 2-5 for the week, Bandera is now 5-10 on the season.
“We are steadily improving, and our younger players have really stepped up – especially in our last win on Saturday,” Head Coach Tisha Pettibon said.
In that match, the Bulldogs fought past McMullen in straight sets behind standout performances from Kolbie Lawlis, Hannah Wells and Taytum Moeller. Lawlis had 10 assists and six digs, Wells had four aces, six kills and two digs, and Moeller added 10 digs and one kill in a 25-22, 25-16 win for Bandera.
That victory came after a tough loss to San Antonio Stevens (9-25, 16-25) where the Bulldogs were led by Sydney Moore (five kills), Lawlis (six assists), Wells (five digs) and Jessi Battle (two aces, two blocks, one assist and one dig). Bandera also fell to Victoria East (9-25, 23-25) while Jayla Blake posted eight kills and three digs and Lexis Moore had six assists and five digs.
On Friday, Bandera fell to Edinburg Vela (15-25, 14-25). Sydney Moore had six kills, Lexis Moore had 10 assists, Blake finished with four aces, five kills and six digs, and Taylor Hamilton had two kills. The Bulldogs fell to Stockdale (13-25, 15-25) despite another big effort from Sydney Moore (nine kills, one blog, one dig), but bounced back to defeat Eagle Pass in a three-set thriller (26-28, 25-15, 26-24).
Sydney Moore had nine kills, Lexis Moore had 32 assists and five digs, Kyra Blake had five kills and Pyper Barnard had four kills, four blocks and two digs in the win.
Prior to the Floresville Tournament, the Bulldogs hosted Marion Tuesday night in the team’s home opener. It was a heartbreaking loss for Bandera, as Marion fought back to claim a win in five sets (25-15, 25-16, 21-25, 22-25, 12-15).
Moeller had 25 digs, Sydney Moore had 15 kills and six digs, Lexis Moore had five aces, 37 assists and 11 digs, Hamilton had six kills, Battle had three kills, one block, two aces and four digs, and Jayla Blake had 19 kills, 17 digs, two aces and one block for Bandera.
The Bulldogs will be back in action at home Tuesday against Jourdanton before traveling to the Southwest ISD Tournament this weekend.
“Right now, we need to go into the game Tuesday ready for a tough match against a well-coached team from Jourdanton,” Pettibon said. “We are looking forward to having some key players return this week, but we still need to keep working on being more consistent with our out-of-system offense.”
