The Bandera boys cross country program continued to post early-season PRs at the team’s second meet of the season Saturday morning in New Braunfels.
While competing against a loaded field of Class 5A and 6A teams, Hayden Swalve finished with a second consecutive PR. Ruben Ruiz-Palacios led the Bulldogs with a time of 11:11 to finish 39th out of 102 runners, while Dominic Garcia (12:44) and Adan Sixtos (12:49) both had strong showings in their first varsity meet of the year.
One highlight from the meet included Bandera finishing in front of district opponent Canyon Lake, as the Bulldogs look to continue their recent run of success advancing to the regional meet this year.
Other varsity runners included Ayden Sarver (12:10), Ashton Robinson (13:35), Zach Goodin (11:43), Michael Verhey (12:07), Walter Roque (13:29) and Jacob Tuma (13:32).
“I thought we fought hard against some tough schools,” Head Coach Aidan Keane said. “We start running 5Ks next Saturday, so we need to continue improving our endurance before district.”
After competing in a relay style race to open the year and a two mile competition this past weekend, the Bandera boys will progress to a 5k at the Medina Valley Invitational on Saturday.
“We are going to focus on increasing our mileage this week in practice,” Keane said. “The goal is to continue to get more and more prepared for the upcoming 5k races on our schedule, and we are progressing towards that. I’m excited to see how we continue to progress and embrace that challenge!”
