Bandera Boys XC places 5th in Medina Valley

By Brady Keane
The Bandera Prophet

The Bandera boys cross country team placed 5th in the Class 1A-4A division at the Medina Valley Invitational Saturday morning, fueled by another strong day from senior Ruben Ruiz-Palacios.
Ruiz-Palacios passed three competitors in the final 200 meters to secure 13th place overall with a time of 18:25, and Adan Sixtos, Ayden Sarver and Hayden Swalve finished in a group together to help the Bulldogs in their team scoring.
“Our varsity guys had a great meet against some really competitive schools,” Head Coach Aidan Keane said. “The heat affected all of the runners’ times, but we were able to push through it and most of our guys still had a big kick at the end of the race.
Behind Ruiz-Palacios, Zach Goodin was 2nd for the Bulldogs with a time of 19:03. Michael Verhey was the No. 3 finisher with a time of 19:57, Swalve ran a 20:18, Sarver ran a 20:19 and Sixtos ran a 20:21. Other varsity runners included Dominic Garcia (21:30), Jacob Tuma (21:45), Walter Roque (22:06) and Keaton Sarver (23:29).
At the JV level, Luciano Martinez (22:24) was the first Bulldog to finish the race in his first ever 5k. Zayne Clark (22:32), Tristan Wilson (22:37), Carter Rissmiller (23:24), Ashton Robinson (23:39), Kelton Raab (24:55), Michael Ramirez (25:13), Dominic Segovia (25:58), Marcus Gonzales (29:03), Adrian Aguirre (29:31) and Porter Barnard (29:54) also competed for Bandera.
The Bulldogs will be back in action this weekend while hosting the Steve Golemon Memorial Meet on Saturday.
“Medina Valley was a big meet, and we were able to compete well,” Keane said. “We have another big meet in Bandera now where our runners are familiar with the course, and we expect to continue to bring home some more medals and drop our times in anticipation of the district meet.”
