The Bandera girls cross country program continued its strong start to the 2024 season with a second place finish at the Steve Golemon Invitational Saturday morning, posting a 2nd place finish as a team with 62 points.
Junior Taytum Moeller posted her best time by 10 seconds on the team’s home course at city park, finishing fourth overall. Freshman Kaylee Fried had a breakout performance to finish 10th, senior Kierstin Brown and freshman Aubrie Moore finished together and placed 17th and 18th, respectively, while junior Riley LaLanne ran her best time at city park by more than a minute to round out the Bulldogs’ top 5 in 21st place overall.
Other varsity runners for Bandera included Merry Robinson, who placed 24th, Xoi Cook, who finished 25th, Milesia Casas (26th), Jazlyn Dickerson (31st) and Lori King (32nd).
At the JV level, the Bulldogs posted a perfect score of 15 and won their division. Senior Riley Noon earned a silver medal after finished 2nd overall while freshman Ayslin Goodin and Bella Fazio finished together in 3rd and 4th. Seniors Iliana Silva and Lauren Meier were 7th and 8th, while Emma Rynarzewski (11th), Julia Freeman (14th) and Katja Ramirez (19th) also had strong showings for Bandera.
The girls cross country team will be back in action in two weeks at the Hoka McNeil Invitational, getting a preview at the course where the UIL State Cross Country meet is held.
“The girls are really taking practices seriously and their races are reflecting that with their improvements,” Head coach Brooke Ashcraft said. “I have a lot of depth and that is creating competitiveness day in and day out. Our upperclassmen are really stepping up into leadership roles and the younger runners are really starting to understand what they need to do to help the team. I’m excited for the girls to experience the McNeil meet. They will see good competition and fast course times with it being where they hold the state meet.”
