Bandera ISD received a $5,000 grant from T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights sweepstakes (#FN5GL #sweepstakes) during the district’s Homecoming parade. Now, all efforts are focused on qualifying for the next tier of the nationwide program, a $25,000 grant.
The sweepstakes, focused on rural high schools in small communities, will help upgrade hometown football fields with enhanced 5G technology. The grand prize is a complete overhaul of one stadium.
Bandera ISD is one of 300 high schools, out of approximately 1,700, selected for the first round of the $5,000 grant disbursal; 16 finalists will receive $25,000 in Phase II; and in the final round, one winning district will be selected for a $2 million makeover, which includes a $100,000 cash grant, a new scoreboard, 5G network upgrades, a 5G-powered halftime drone show, and an upgraded weight room.
The finalists for the second tier will be announced in early October; the grand prize winner will be announced in November.
