Bandera City Council members approved the budget and tax rate for the next fiscal year.
The approved tax rate is $0.47 per $100 property valuation, the same as last year’s, however the approved budget will raise more property tax revenue than last year by $54,672.61, of which $9,877.04 comes from new properties added to the tax roll. The budget will take effect Oct. 1.
Council approved new utility rates, with a 1.5 percent increase across the board, effective Oct. 15. Inside the city limits, the conservation rate (1 to 1,500 gallons) will change from $25.01 to $25.39; 1,501 to 2,000 gallons will go up $.45, from $30.01 to $30.46. Please see the full list of residential and commercial water/sewer rates here. A 5-percent garbage rate increase across the board was also approved.
~ In other business, council approved the use of Bandera City Park for a circus. The Bandera County Chamber of Commerce will host the Culpepper & Merriweather Circus on Saturday, Oct. 12, which will be held at the end of the park on the baseball outfield. The midway will open at 1 p.m., with pony rides, a moon bounce, giant slide, face painting and the concession stand. Performances will take place at 2 and 4:30 p.m.

~ Bandera County Convention and Visitors Bureau Manager Carita Jundt read aloud an email sent by a tourist visiting from Germany. The visitor wrote that her 8-year-old son “had a blast watching the gunfighters,” and the horse-drawn wagon ride was “perfect.”
Jundt said both the city and Bandera Economic Development Corporation contribute to those events, adding, “our visitors really do appreciate it.”
