Bandera girls XC finishes 16th at prestigious McNeil Invitational

The Bandera girls cross country team had a strong showing in one of the largest meets of the year, competing against a total of 369 runners at the 30th annual McNeil Invitational on Friday.
With several girls competing at Old Settlers’ Park for the first time, the Bulldogs finished 16th out of 46 teams.
“This was the second time we have seen teams from our district,” Bandera Head Coach Brooke Ashcraft said. “We held our own, and know there is still room for more improvement.”
Taytum Moeller led the way for Bandera, finishing with a time of 12:51.30. Kierstin Brown (13:10.40), Riley LaLanne (13:16.90), Kaylee Fried (13:25.50), Aubrie Moore (13:52.30), Jazlyn Dickerson (13:55.30), Milesia Casas (13:57.70), Mia Ranly (13:59.40), Xoi Cook (14:12), and Merry Robinson (14:22.30) also contributed to the Bulldogs’ success as a team.
“Our plan was to be more aggressive and to be more strategic, especially with there being 369 runners in the race,” Ashcraft said. “Kierstin, Riley and Jazlyn each improved their time drastically on the State Meet Course as three of our returners who had run on this course previously.”
The Bandera girls will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Dilley Texas State Invitational, with the district meet right around the corner on Oct. 10, at Starke Park in Seguin.
“I am really proud of where we are as a team right now,” Ashcraft said. “The girls have made it very clear what their goals are, and they are committed to each other and their goals for the season. We have three weeks until district, and I have no doubt they will continue to put in the work that they need to.”
