Ruiz-Palacios, Martinez PR for Bandera XC in Round Rock

The Bandera boys cross country team competed in the 30th annual Round Rock McNeil Cross Country Invitational on Friday and finished near the top half of Class 4A Region IV teams at the prestigious meet.
The Bulldogs were 33rd overall and 9th of 17 Region IV teams, placing third among its district competition in the process.
“We competed well,” Head Coach Aidan Keane said. “Our game plan was to hit the first two miles at each runners’ pace, and then start to push toward a PR. We had a few guys do exactly that, and their times reflected it.”
Ruben Ruiz-Palacios led the way for the Bulldogs, posting a PR of 18:26.40. Zach Goodin finished second for Bandera with a time of 18:39.30, Hayden Swalve was third (20:17.60) and Michael Verhey was fourth (20:33.50). Other runners included Ayden Sarver (20:44.40), Adan Sixtos (21:06.30), Dominic Garcia (21:07.80), Carter Rissmiller (21:11.50), Luciano Martinez (21:31.60) and Walter Roque (22:04.80).
Martinez joined Ruiz-Palacios by posting another season PR, improving his 5K time by 38 seconds since the team’s last competition.
The Bandera boys cross country team will be back to work this week prepping for the Dilley Texas State Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 28. The district competition is set for Thursday, Oct. 10, at Starke Park in Seguin.
“We got to see almost every team in our district at the McNeil Invitational,” Keane said. “Our times look more and more competitive, giving us a good chance at making another regional appearance. We have three weeks before the district meet to continue to grow and give ourselves the best opportunity to finish in the top 3 and qualify for regionals.”
