Bandera boys place third at Dilleys Texas State Invitational

By Brady Keane
The Bandera Prophet

The Bandera varsity boys cross country team placed third at the Texas State Invitational in Dilley over the weekend, capitalizing on flat course to show improvement in time groupings prior to the district meet.
The Bulldogs saw most of the program post a season-best time, with Ruben Ruiz-Palacios (17:26.706) narrowly edging out Zach Goodin (17:26.740) at the front of the group.
“Our guys knew it was going to be a fast course,” Head Coach Aidan Keane said. “They started quick and pushed through to take advantage of that, with a good portion of our team hitting a season-best. We had a couple great kicks at the end of the race, making some key passes to improve our positioning.”
Behind Ruiz-Palacios and Goodin at the varsity level for Bandera was Ayden Sarver (18:51), Hayden Swalve (18:52), Michael Verhey (19:26), Adan Sixtos (19:32), and Dominic Garcia (20:07).
The JV team also had a strong showing in Dilley, taking home first place thanks in large part to an impressive effort from Zayne Clark, who knocked nearly a full three minutes off his last race time to finish first among Bandera runners at the JV level with a time of 20:02. Other JV runners included Walter Roque (20:27), Luciano Martinez (20:33), Carter Rissmiller (20:47), Michael Ramirez (22:46), Tristan Wilson (22:53), Adrian Aguirre (23:38), Ashton Robinson (24:09), and Kelton Raab (24:32).
The Bulldogs will now have almost two weeks to continue preparation for the district meet, which is set for Oct. 10, at Starcke Park in Seguin.
“We accomplished the goals we had heading into the weekend, and feel like we’re in a really good position with two weeks until district,” Keane said. “We have to continue improving these next two weeks, and that will be the focus as we look to make another appearance at regionals this year.”
