The Bandera girls cross country team swept the field Saturday at Dilley’s Texas State Invitational, taking first place in both the JV (16 points) and Varsity (25 points) divisions.
Five Bulldog runners finished in the top 10 at the varsity level, including four in the top six, while Bandera’s top four JV runners took first through fourth place overall as well.
“It was exciting to see the Varsity girls bunched up together when they came around the corner with 600 meters left in the race,” Head Coach Brooke Ashcraft said. “Only nine seconds separated the top 4 girls, and many of the Varsity girls had a personal best. In the JV race, the entire team of 10 took off and took control of the race right away.”
Taytum Moeller had another strong week on the course, placing second overall with a time of 12:42. Aubrie Moore wasn’t far behind, placing third (12:46) and Kaylee Fried placed 4th (12:51). Riley LaLanne was sixth overall (12:53), Milesia Casas placed 10th (13:27), Kierstin Brown placed 14th (13:49) and Jazlyn Dickerson was 21st (14:31).
At the JV level, Mia Ranly won the individual title with a time of 13:57. Other finishers included Ayslyn Goodin (2nd, 14:11), Lori King (3rd, 14:13), Merry Robinson (4th, 14:14), Xoi Cook (6th, 14:22), Addison Ashcraft (7th, 14:34), Emma Rynarzewski (10th, 14:42), Briley Clark (11th, 14:56), Lauren Meier (12th, 15:!4) and Julia Freeman (14th, 15:41).
The Bulldogs will now continue preparations for the district cross country meet, which is set for Oct. 10, at Starcke Park in Seguin.
“I was very excited after Saturday's meet,” Ashcraft said. “I feel like everything we have been working on really came together. We will be going back to work the next week and half before district.”
