Bandera volleyball turns focus to district play

By Brady Keane
The Bandera Prophet

The Bandera volleyball team lost a pair of hard fought matches to open district play last week, and now faces an important stretch of home matches as the Bulldogs look to fight their way into the playoff picture.
After taking Fredericksburg to five sets on Tuesday, Bandera fell in three sets to Canyon Lake on Friday with two of three extending beyond 25 points.
The Bulldogs fell to Fredericksburg 25-20 in the opening set before bouncing back with a 26-24 win in set 2 and a 25-21 win in set three. The Billies took set 4 25-17 before closing out the win in set 5 15-8.
Taylor Hamilton led the way offensively, posting 14 kills, one block and one dig. Jayla Blake added 9 kills and 16 digs, Ally Kline had 34 assists, eight digs, two kills and two aces and Kinlee Lawlis finished with 12 kills and 15 digs.
“We learned from the Fredericksburg game that we need to work on finishing sets and staying aggressive until the final point,” Head Coach Tisha Pettibon said.
The Lady Bulldogs then traveled ot Canyon Lake, falling 28-26 in set 1, 25-21 in set 2 and 30-28 in set 3. Blake posted 12 kills, 14 digs and four aces, Kline had 22 assists, eight digs, one kill and one ace, Sydney Moore had five kills and one dig and Taytum Moeller had 22 digs.
“Against Canyon Lake we did not achieve our team goals offensively,” Pettibon said. “We are not going to be successful until we make it a point to achieve those goals each set.”
Bandera will host both Wimberley and Navarro this week at home, looking to bounce back and close out the first round of district play with some momentum entering round two next week. The Bulldogs host Navarro Friday night, at 6 p.m.
“We need to focus on playing aggressive and making sure we cover our attackers,” Pettibon said. “Wimberley has a huge block, so we need to be prepared going into that match. As a team, we need to find a way to win at home this week to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot.”
