Bandera junior Taytum Moeller posted a season-best time by a full 20 seconds to finish 8th individually at the District 26-4A meet on Thursday, earning a spot at the Class 4A Region IV Championship race.
Moeller, who placed 18th individually at the district meet last year as a sophomore, quickly put herself in position among the race’s top 10 runners this year.
Moeller’s big day highlighted a race that was full of personal bests for the entire Bandera girls’ team, but the Bulldogs fell just short of advancing to the regional meet as a unit while placing fourth – just two points behind Wimberley for the final spot.
Kaylee Fried finished second among Bandera runners and 16 overall with a time of 12:36.46, while Aubrie Moore (12:51), Riley LaLanne (12:52) and Merry Robinson (12:54) finished 21, 22 and 23 overall. Milesia Casas (13:21) was 27, and Mia Ranly (13:39) finished 32.
“In the girls race, typically the teams that get out of this district will represent at the state meet, and represent well,” Head Coach Brooke Ashcraft said. “All seven girls who ran in the Varsity race either had a personal best or season best. I’m really proud of each and every single one of the girls and what they accomplished this season. There was some celebration and some heartbreak, but lessons learned along the way. We have a lot to celebrate, and I want to thank my seniors for their leadership this season and each of the girls for their hard work.”
At the JV level, the Bulldogs placed second overall behind Davenport.
JV runners included Lori King (13:49), Xoi Cook (14:09), Addison Ashcraft (14:15), Briley Clark (14:17), Ayslyn Goodin (14:24), Emma Rynarzewski (15:10), Jada Bergfield (15:43), Rosa Espino (15:55), Katja Ramirez (16:04), Jaydn Cale (16:19), Mariska Collazo (16:28), Kylie Minton (16:33), Amy Rodriguez (16:39), Miranda Brown (16:52), Bridget Landrum (16:56), Jazmin Rodriguez (17:20), Yamne De La Rosa (17:54), Georgina Diaz (18:09), Dariana Mendoza (18:28), Zoe Kelly (19:22), Ashley Meza-Sanchez (19:28).
Senior division runners included Riley Noon (14:07), Madi Lewis (14:12), Jazlyn Dickerson (14:14), Lauren Meier (14:39), Illiana Silva (14:55), Mila Chica-Fasting (15:04), Julia Freeman (15:06), Celeste Martinez (15:40), Izzie Chapa (16:12).
Moeller will now begin preparations for the Class 4A Region IV meet, which is set for Oct. 21, in Corpus Christi. The top four teams and top 10 individuals who are not already on an advancing team will qualify for the state meet.
“Taytum is not done yet and will fight for a top stop to qualify out for the State XC meet,” Ashcraft said. “We’re looking forward to putting in the work over the next 10 days and cheering her on at the Region IV meet on Oct. 21.”
