Bandera Boys XC finishes 15th at 4A Region IV meet

By Brady Keane
The Bandera Prophet

The Bandera varsity boys cross country team capped off its season with a 15th-place finish at the Class 4A Region IV meet in Corpus Christi last week. This marked the Bulldogs' fifth consecutive appearance at regionals, and the team showed resilience on the big stage again this season.
"Our guys ran harder than they had all season," first-year head coach Aidan Keane said. "We might not have gotten the place we hoped to get, but they left everything they had on the course, and I couldn’t be more proud of their effort during the race.”
Bandera’s runners worked closely as a unit, with four of the seven competitors finishing within a minute of each other. The Bulldogs pushed each other to finish strong, especially in the final 400 meters, where each Bandera runner passed at least three competitors in the closing stretch.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Ruben Ruiz-Palacios, who finished 25th overall with a time of 18:01.
The Bulldogs' final times were:
Ruben Ruiz-Palacios: 18:01
Zach Goodin: 19:07
Hayden Swalve: 20:05
Adan Sixtos: 20:10
Zayne Clark: 20:32
Michael Verhey: 20:35
Ayden Sarver: 21:09
Keane also emphasized the Bulldogs’ individual improvement in the postseason, highlighting that four of Bandera’s seven runners posted better times at regionals than they had at the district meet.
“We made it our goal to reach the regional meet again, and we accomplished that,” Keane said. “I’m proud of how they handled the competition and the commitment they’ve shown all year. Our seniors leave behind a standard of high expectations, and our younger runners have a lot to look forward to as they work to replicate the success our senior class has worked to achieve.”
