Bandera’s Taytum Moeller capped off her junior season with a strong showing at the UIL Class 4A State Cross Country Meet at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock on Friday.
In a field packed with the fastest runners in Texas, Moeller pushed through a tough start and worked her way up the field before finishing with a time of 12:45, placing 73rd in the state.
“I am very proud of Taytum,” Bandera Head Coach Brooke Ashcraft said. “I knew the race was going to be fast, but not that fast. Taytum had a personal record at the mile mark by 15 seconds. She witnessed firsthand the fastest race recorded at the 4A level, as the first runner broke the course record by 25 seconds.”
Canyon’s Addy Bristow posted an eye-popping time of 10:43.30 to take the gold, and 17 runners finished under the milestone 12:00 mark in the race.
But in her first appearance at state, Moeller was encouraged by her finish and is already looking forward to setting new goals with her teammates for next season. The experience at the state meet will undoubtedly pay off for Moeller, who has continued to improve through each of her three years with the program.
Moeller was the first Lady Bulldog to participate at the state meet since 2021.
“What I am most excited about was Taytum’s response afterward,” Ashcraft said. “She told her teammates, who continued to train with her all season, ‘We WILL be here together next year!’ Their response? ‘Yes, we will!’”
