Bandera Middle School basketball sweeps Pearsall in opening games

8th Grade A Team
The 8th grade Lady Bulldog basketball A team won an exciting season-opener against Pearsall, 35 to 31. The Bulldogs fought to maintain a small lead for most of the game behind on-target shooting from Brooke Montelongo, Blu Rollo, and Rehnahta Gomez. Bandera's full-court press provided many opportunities for steals by Gracen Spruell, Brooke Montelongo and Elizabeth D'Spain. Bandera travels to Carrizo Springs next week, hoping to continue their winning streak.
8th Grade B Team
The 8th grade Lady Bulldog basketball B team defeated Pearsall 16 to 8. The Dogs jumped out to a 10-point lead early in the first half behind fast-break scoring from Makayla Clay. Riley Boyd led the defensive effort with 7 steals. Emma McClintock helped limit second chance opportunities by securing 3 rebounds. 8th grade B team's record is 1 win and 0 losses.
7th Grade A Team
7th grade A Team started the season off strong with a nail biter, beating the Pearsall Lady Dogies 15-13. With only a few practices under their belt, the Lady Dogs hustled and never gave up which resulted in an exciting and hard fought win. Stats Recorded: June Flowers 6 pts, Vanessa Gonzalez with 3 pts, Harper Hicks, Colbie Lalanne and Karina Young with 2 pts a piece. Rebounds: Harper Hartsfield 4, Harper Hicks with 3, June Flowers, Hailee Feller and Karina Young with 2 and Olivia Lane, Colbie Lalanne, Brenna Byrd, Vanessa Gonzalez and Sydney Bowman contributed 1 each. Steals: Vanessa Gonzalez with 15, Harper Hicks with 9, Harper Hartsfield with 6, Colbie Lalanne with 4, and June Flowers, Brenna Bryd, Olivia Lane and Karina Young added pressure with 2 each, Cataleya Valles with 1. Assists: Vanessa Gonzales with 4 and Cataleya Valles with 1. Getting past this first game jitters, we’re very excited to see what's to come for the rest of the season!
7th Grade B Team
The 7th grade B-Team also started their season off with a win, beating Pearsall 12-10. Stats recorded: Michelle Melton with 6 points, Kaycee Putney, Emma Jayde Spofford and Mika Gray all with 2 points each. Rebounds: Aspen Collazo with 3, Avery Dehart and Michelle Melton with 2 each. Hailey Capps, Kaycee Putney, Mika Gray and Olivia Rynarzewski all had one each. Steals: Emma Jayde Spofford with 7, Hailey Capps and Aspen Collazo with 4 apiece, Michelle Melton with 3, Mika Gray and Sally King came up with 2 and lastly, Natalie Hauer, Olivia Rynarzewski and Avery Dehart with 1 each.
We are very proud of the girls and how they overcame their first game jitters. This season will be very exciting for all of the Lady Bulldog teams, but for now it’s back to work!
