Spruell named District MVP as Bulldogs headline all-district awards

After finishing 7-4 with a second consecutive district championship, the Bandera football program was well-represented at the District 14-4A Division II All-District meeting.
Senior defensive end and left tackle Gavin Spruell, who anchored the Bulldogs’ defense and set the tone up front offensively, was named District MVP. Spruell finished the year with 66 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and three sacks, while also paving the way for an offense that totaled more than 3,500 yards.
Spruell was one of several Bulldogs on the defensive side who caught the attention of district coaches in the postseason meeting. Sophomore Jonah Klein earned Defensive Newcomer of the Year honors after racking up 73 tackles and 15 tackles for loss, while Josh Goff (76 tackles, 7 TFLs) and Kenneth Seth (75 tackles, 6 TFLs) were named to the First Team defensively.
In the secondary, Dane Barnett led the team with 94 tackles, 5 pass breakups and two interceptions, earning First Team All-District honors. Sam Snavely was also named a First Team All-District cornerback after finishing with 47 tackles, 5.5 TFL and eight pass break ups.
Nose guard Daylon Lee, inside linebackers Roman Rigelsky and Jackson Satterfield, outside linebacker West cloudy and safety Ibraham MacNeil also earned Second Team All-District honors on the defensive side.
Offensively, sophomore Breydan Gherman had a breakout year while rushing for 1,295 yards and 13 touchdowns to earn Offensive Newcomer of the Year honors. Quarterback Dylan Peace, a First Team All-District selection, threw for 2,089 yards and 25 touchdowns, connecting frequently with First Team All-District wide receivers Sam Snavely (18 catches, 454 yards, 4 TDs) and Ibraham MacNeil (19 catches, 260 yards, 1 TD).
Tight end Benton Cloudt (18 catches, 315 yards, 3 TDs) also earned First Team honors for his reliable efforts both in the passing game and as a blocking fullback.
Right tackle Logan Harman earned First Team honors for his contributions up front while Isaiah Coloney was named to the Second Team at right guard. Sophomore Logan Martinez earned Honorable Mention All-District honors.
Junior Jeffry Thomas was named the district’s Utility Player of the Year after tallying 49 catches for 915 yards and 13 touchdowns while adding 27 tackles, 4.5 TFL, 1 INT and leading the team in both kickoff and punt return yardage.
Senior Jace Knowles was also an instrumental part of the Bulldogs’ success, earning First Team All-District Kicker honors after going a perfect 35-for-35 on PAT attempts while connecting on 4-of-5 field goal opportunities, including the game-winning 35-yard try in the district championship game against Carrizo Springs. Knowles was also named a Second Team All-District punter.
The Bulldogs will lose a number of key contributors from its host of all-district selections as the team transitions into preparing for the 2025 season, but there is plenty to look forward to with a talented group of young contributors returning. Gherman, Klein, Thomas, Benton and West Cloudt, Harman, Barnett, Coloney and Martinez headline the returners for the Bulldogs, while several other key pieces are set to return from injury during the off-season as well.
