Holiday wreaths placed on veterans’ graves

On Dec. 14, the Bandera American Legion Post 157 and members of the Medina ISD FCCLA placed remembrance wreaths on the graves of all veterans in Medina’s Oak Rest Cemetery, to remember and honor their service and sacrifices. Following the laying of the wreaths, each veteran’s name was said aloud.
Wreaths Across America began as a personal tribute made by Morrill Worcester in Harrington, Maine, in 1992, when he donated 5,000 wreaths to Arlington National Cemetery. So moved were people across the country by the photos of green wreaths placed on the snow-covered graves, they asked Worcester to send wreaths to smaller cemeteries.
In 2007, Wreaths Across America was established, with the mission to Remember, Honor, Teach. Today, two million volunteers and supporters place three million wreaths at more than 4,200 locations.
