The Bandera boys soccer team is off to a strong start to the 2025 season, after going 2-1 in the Tivy Antler Classic Soccer Tournament Jan. 2-4 and defeating Poteet in dominant fashion at home Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs defeated Holmes 2-1 as Diego Murado-Gomez led the way with a goal and an assist to open the Tivy Tournament, but the Bulldogs went on to fall to Taft 5-3. After trailing 4-1 at the half, Jace Knowles and Quin King connected on a pair of goals to bring the score within 4-3, but Taft pulled away with a late goal to seal the win.
In the 3rd place game, Connor Garrett blocked a penalty kick while Maverick Short scored on a penalty kick of his own to give the Bulldogs the victory in their first shutout performance of the season.
“I was very proud of the matches we played over three days,” Bandera Head Coach Westley Miller said. “Our effort and team play were good to see this early in the season.”
Bandera returned home to Bulldog Stadium Tuesday night after the strong showing in the Kerrville Tournament and picked up an impressive 9-1 win over Poteet. King scored four goals and Murado-Gomez added three to give the Bulldogs two offensive hat tricks. Ibraham MacNeil and Maverick Short each scored a goal apiece as well, and Hayden Swalve added two assists while Nino Martinez set the tone on the defensive end.
“The team really clicked against Poteet,” Miller said. “We played with a lot of focus and intensity, and that was a good confidence boost heading into the Pleasanton Tournament.”
The Bulldogs will be back in action Friday at the Pleasanton Tournament where they’ll get a rematch vs. Uvalde and a game against Ingleside.
