The Bandera girls soccer team opened its season against high level competition in the College Station Tournament last weekend, falling in games to Copperas Cove, Haslet Eaton and Sulphur Springs.
The Bulldogs fell behind early to Copperas Cove before tying the match at 1-1 heading into the halftime break. Bandera fought to take a 3-2 lead in the second half, but gave up two late goals in a 4-3 finish. Elise Blois, Lori King and Sydney Jeager each scored for the Bulldogs while King, Blois and Mila Chica-Fasting tallied an assist apiece.
After the tough loss to Copperas Cove, the Bulldogs fell to Eaton 8-0 and Sulphur Springs 7-0.
“The girls played some extremely tough Class 6A competition the first weekend,” Bandera Head Coach Brian Davis said. “We wanted to see top notch talent and learn from that experience. Playing at that level also allows us to see our tactical strengths and weaknesses to prepare for district play.”
The Bulldogs bounced back Tuesday night and forced a 0-0 tie against Class 4A San Angelo Lake View.
"I was proud of the way the girls responded after a challenging weekend," Davis said. "Again, matches like these early in the year will help us build the toughness we need for district play."
