Boys boys soccer falls to Davenport in district opener
By Brady Keane
The Bandera Prophet
The Bandera varsity soccer team competed well in its first district match of the season but ultimately fell to Davenport in a 3-1 finish on the road Friday night.
After falling behind 1-0, the Bulldogs put pressure on Davenport’s midfield and broke through when Noah Waller found Diego Gomez, who tied the game at 1-1. The Wolves regained the lead just before the half, and the Bulldogs responded well out of the halftime break with a newfound energy and intensity.
Unfortunately, several successful sequences aimed at tying the game full just short of finding the goal. Davenport added a third goal to make it 3-1 with seven minutes to go, and the Wolves held on for the win.
“I’m really proud of how we competed Friday night,” Bandera Coach Westley Miller said. “While it wasn’t the result we were working toward, I am confident that we’ll find success in the games to come as we try to reach our goal of making the playoffs this season.”
The Bulldogs will make their long-awaited return to Bulldog Stadium Tuesday night after nearly an entire month of competing on the road. Bandera will host Canyon Lake, with the JV game set to begin at 5 p.m., and the Varsity game scheduled for a 7 p.m. start. The Bulldogs will then travel to Fredericksburg on Friday.
“We’re definitely excited to get back on the field in front of our home crowd and are looking forward to responding against a good Canyon Lake team,” Miller said. “This will be an important week for us, and we’re excited for the challenge.”
