Medina Lady Cats defeated both San Perlita and Richards to earn Area Champion honors. The week began on Monday, Feb. 10, with the Lady Cats traveling to Three Rivers to take on San Perlita in the Bi-District Playoff round. The Lady Cats jumped out to an early lead and continued that lead throughout the entire contest. The final score was Medina 43, San Perlita 31.
The win advanced Medina to the Area round, held at Luling High School, where they matched up with the Lady Panthers from Richards. Richards put points on the board first early in the game. Unfortunately for them though, Medina quickly answered with a couple of baskets to set the tone for the game. When the final buzzer sounded, the Lady Cats had earned Area Champion honors by a score of 50-37.
“As a program, we had a game plan. The girls executed it to near perfection. Our defense was suffocating which translated to easy fast break points. Our seniors stepped up and led while the underclassmen played fearlessly. I could not be more proud to be a Bobcat,” Lady Cat Head Coach Joseph Harlow said about the Area Championship game.
The wins advance the Lady Cats to the Regional Semi-final round, where they will face Zavalla. The game will be played Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 6 p.m., at Fayetteville High School.
