Texas Master Naturalists discuss plastic and its impact on the environment
The public is invited to attend a talk sponsored by the Hill Country Chapter, Texas Master Naturalists, in Kerrville on Feb. 24, at 7 p.m.
Plastic and Its Impact on the Environment - Plastics are part of our daily lives. When plastic deteriorates, it does not go away but becomes small particles called microplastics. Learn how microplastics affect the air and soil in the Texas Hill Country and how much plastics and microplastics are an integral part of our environment and lives, found in our water, food, and throughout our bodies. Also learn what each of us can do to help reduce this persistent problem.
Speaker Karen Taylor is the state chair for the Texas Gardening School (TGC) and involved in the TGC's Gardening Study School in San Antonio this year (see https://texasgardenclubs.org/event/3093/). Karen is a graduate of the TGC Environmental School, was 2024 VP of Programs for the award-winning Hunt Garden Club, taught at the Environmental Studies School in Groesbeck, and is a member of TMN and NPSOT.
There is no charge to attend. The talk will be held at the Guadalupe Basin Natural Resources Center, 125 Lehmann Drive, Suite 100 in Kerrville. Online attendance via Facebook livestream and Zoom are also available. If you wish to attend via Zoom, please pre-register using this link:

Doors will open at 6 p.m., with light refreshments served. Starting at 6:30 p.m., the Chapter will hold its monthly business meeting, with the presentation by Karen Taylor to begin at 7 p.m.
TEXAS WATER SPECIALIST STUDY GROUP
The Texas Water Specialist study group began Jan. 11, at the Riverside Nature Center. The group uses the curriculum provided by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. It is a science-based resource and provides a good basis for understanding the ecology of Texas rivers and creeks. There is no cost for participation. Participants must be at least 16 years old.
