Bandera girls track opens season in Ingram

By Brady Keane
The Bandera Prophet

The Bandera girls track and field team opened the season with a strong performance last week at the Bruce Faust Ingram Warrior Relays, setting the bar high early in the year with multiple personal best and medalist finishes.
With a strong cold front moving through, the teams did not get to complete all of the field events, but the Lady Bulldogs battled through the tough conditions and performed well from start to finish.
“It’s still early in the season, but I was proud of how we competed,” Bandera Head Coach Brooke Ashcraft said. “Even with the cold, they pushed through and we saw a lot of great results, especially from some of our returners who are already ahead of where they ended last year.”
Kinlee Lawlis dominated in the sprints, taking first in both the 100m and 200m dash. Jessi Battle finished fifth in the 100m dash with a personal best, and Preslee Greenley placed fourth in the 200m.
In the distance races, Taytum Moeller raced to first place finishes in both the 800m run and the 1,600m run while posting a personal record in each. In the 3,200m run, Xoi Cook finished second with a personal best time, while Aubrie Moore placed third and Riley LaLanne placed fourth.
In the hurdles, Sydney Moore took second in the 100m hurdles while Jazlyn Dickerson won the 300m hurdles with a PR and Lori King placed sixth.
Bandera’s relay teams were dominant, as Merry Robinson, Milesia Casas, Sydney Moore and Kinlee Lawlis took first in the 4x200m relay while Casas, Moore, Dickerson and Moeller also brought home first in the 4x400m relay. The 4x100m relay team of Eva Le, Jessi Battle, Riley Noon and Preslee Greenley placed fifth.
In the pole vault, Milesia Casas was third and Julia Freeman placed fifth. Jocelyn Klein finished sixth in discus.
Bandera will be back in action at home on Thursday, Feb. 27, with running events set to begin at 10 a.m., and field events set to start at 4:30 p.m.
“Hosting a meet is always exciting and we’re looking forward to competing in front of our home crowd,” Ashcraft said. “The girls started the year well and I know they’re ready to keep building on that momentum.”
