Two people died in a tragic house fire off Old Castroville Hwy. Sunday morning. The fire appeared to be caused by a space heater, Bandera County Fire Marshal Jason Rutherford said.
Authorities responded to the emergency call at 5:55 a.m., Feb. 23. Rutherford said the fire quickly spread, trapping the two residents, a mother, an employee of Bandera ISD, and her young daughter, a student at Alkek Elementary, inside.
Bandera ISD Superintendent Gary Bitzkie notified district families by email.
The Medina County fire marshal is conducting the investigation, with cooperation from Rutherford.
