Kinlee Lawlis signs with ASU

Bandera senior Kinlee Lawlis made the decision to continue her education and track and field career at Angelo State University official, signing a national letter of intent Tuesday morning in front of a packed gym at Bandera High School.
“It meant a lot to do the signing with my teammates, coaches, friends and family there to support me,” Lawlis said. “It’s something I had been looking forward to for quite some time now. It was a rewarding experience for sure.”
Bandera Head Girls Track Coach Brooke Ashcraft, who also competed for Angelo State at the collegiate level, praised Lawlis during the signing ceremony for her dedication and impact on the Bandera athletic program over the past four years.
Lawlis has been an all-district competitor in volleyball, basketball and softball, in addition to setting school records in the 100m, 200m, long jump, and as a member of the 4x200m relay.
“I’m extremely excited about her potential as a track athlete because she has been spread so thin,” Ashcraft said. “With all the sports she’s played, it’s exciting to think about how much she’ll be able to improve when she focuses solely on track at the next level. Even with all her success, she continued to compete in multiple sports just to contribute, and that says a lot about her.”
Already excelling just two meets into her senior season, Lawlis has set her sights on advancing to the UIL Class 4A State Meet this year, both individually and as a member of the 4x200m relay.
At the Bandera Invitational on Thursday, she placed first in the 100m dash, first in the 200m dash, and second in the long jump.
“I’m really excited—the sky is the limit for her,” Ashcraft said. “Now that she has signed, the pressure is off. She can just enjoy running, being with her teammates, and finishing out her senior year the right way.”
