The Bandera girls track and field team finished second as a team at the Bandera Invitational Meet last Thursday, posting 137 points and finishing just 11.5 points behind first place Devine.
The Bulldogs’ strong meet included six first place finishes. Kinlee Lawlis placed first in both the 100m and 200m just two days after signing to continue her athletic career at Angelo State University, posting a 12.90 in the 100m and a 25.50 in the 200m.
Other first place finishes included Taytum Moeller in the 800m (2:25.50), the 4x200m relay team of Merry Robinson, Milesia Casas, Sydney Moore and Lawlis (1:46.10), the 4x400m relay team of Robinson, Casas, Moore and Jazlyn Dickerson (4:14.47) and Madison Davis in the shot put (34-8.50).
Moore also placed 2nd in the 100m hurdles, Moeller was 2nd in the mile run, and Lawlis placed 2nd in the long jump. Dickerson was 3rd in the 300m hurdles, Davis was 3rd in discus, Xoi Cook was 4th in the two-mile run, Casas was 4th in the 200m and 4th in the pole vault.
Kierstin Brown (5th in the two-mile and the mile), Kaylee Fried (5th in the 400m), Aubrie Moore (6th in the two mile) and Jocelyn Klein (6th in discus) also placed for the Bulldogs.
“I felt pleased with the competitive effort from the girls despite the weather conditions not being favorable,” Bandera Head Girls Track Coach Brooke Ashcraft said. “We still had many kids better their times and/or marks despite that.”
The Bulldogs will be back in action this weekend at the Texas A&M Bluebonnet High School Invitational, where qualified competitors will compete against some of the top athletes in the state.
“I’m excited to see what the girls will do when they are challenged,” Ashcraft said. “It will be a test for them not only physically but also mentally. I look forward to a great weekend.”
