Lakehills Library holds gala fundraiser
By Vicki L. George

To celebrate 25 years serving our community, the Lakehills Area Library is holding a very special fundraiser this year. It is called Kentucky Derby Day Benefit and it will take place on Derby Day, which is Saturday, May 3, in the library at 7200 FM 1283, from 4 - 7:30 p.m.
Attendees are encouraged to wear their best Bowties and their fancy Derby Hats, while watching the thoroughbreds run for the roses. There will be prizes for the best dressed in both categories.
Live music will be provided by Natalie Rose. Many of you are already familiar with Natalie, a country singer/songwriter, who has traveled all over Texas for about 15 years. She has performed locally at several venues and her songs have placed highly in Texas Radio and Texas Music Scene.
Tickets to the event are $50 each and are available now, which includes the food, beverage, and the entertainment. They can be purchased at the library or from any member of the library board.
The raffle tickets are also available now and they run $5 each or five for $20. There are three raffle items: An interesting and decorative lawn set, comprising a table and two chairs, from RMC Productions, made from concrete, and valued at $2,000; and they can be delivered to your home. The other two raffle items are gift cards, one from True Value in Lakehills, worth $500, and one from True Value in Bandera, valued at $200. These tickets can be purchased at the library or from any library board member.
There will be a “bar,” where there are more Mint Juleps, with and without, as well as select wines, beers, and water. While the event ticket includes one Mint Julep, attendees will be able to purchase tickets for additional drinks.
Heavy appetizers will be served by a wonderful volunteer group. Edible items will include bourbon balls, shrimp cocktail, maple caramel bacon crack bites, praline balls, fruit kabobs and chocolate pecan pie with bourbon.
There will be a small, very selective silent auction of about a dozen items. Some of those items will be revealed later, but among them are one highlighting wine, one highlighting bourbon, and one featuring a beautiful piece of jewelry.
A variety of games and contests will be played, including Best Derby Hat and Best Bowtie. The winners of each game will be able to select their prizes from several game prizes offered.
Several kiosks will be set up featuring just some of the services provided by the Lakehills Area Library. Visit all six and have a chance to win a prize.
Their website is lakehillslibrary.org or follow them on Facebook.
The Lakehills Area Library is located at 7200 FM 1283 and the phone is 830-510-2777.
Their hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
