The Bandera softball team fell to Wimberley 15-0 Tuesday night as the high-powered Texans jumped out to an early lead early before cruising to a run-rule finish in the fourth inning.
Wimberley scored three runs in the first inning and four in each of the second, third and fourth. The Texans posted 12 hits, including two triples, to control the game from start to finish.
Bandera had scoring opportunities, including in the first inning when Bailey Word and Preslee Greenlee opened the game with a pair of singles. Cerissa Fernandez had a double in the top of the fourth and advanced to third with a steal, but the Bulldogs were unable to get the timely hit they needed to break through on the scoreboard.
“We had some good moments at the plate early,” Bandera Head Coach Keith Kuenzel said. “Bailey and Preslee set the tone right away with back-to-back hits. We just couldn’t find that big swing to push a run across and keep the momentum going.”
Bandera dropped to 3-18 on the season with the loss and has three games remaining on the District 26-4A slate. The Bulldogs will host Navarro Friday before closing the season on the road at Davenport and Canyon Lake next week.
“We’re focused on finishing strong,” Kuenzel said. “This group has battled through a lot, and we want to put together a complete game and end the year on a positive note.”
